西部开拓史（How the West Was Won）是一部1962年的史诗型式西部片。时间设定为1839年至1889年。情节是拓荒者普莱史考特一家人四代的故事，旁及各相关人事物；从中呈现半个世纪的美国西部历史。此片气势雄浑壮阔，编剧、取景、摄影、配乐、音效、导演、演员 阵容，各方面俱臻上乘水平。全片包括5个部分：《急流》、《平原》、《非法之徒》，由亨利·海瑟威执导；《南北战争》由约翰·福特导演；《铁路》由乔治·马歇尔执导。
故事讲述一家三代在各种时代背景下的艰难曲折，通过这个家庭从19世纪早期到1880年代半个世纪的迁徙经历，描述美国西部历史。他们从纽约出发，经历了内战，淘金热，路遇印第安人和西南部的流放者，经历各种艰难险阻，终于到达西部，并联合其他开拓者在平原上修建了铁路，把法律与正义也带到了边疆。

本作は、侠和会に所属する氷室蓮司と田村悠人が極道界の頂点を目指すさまを描いた「日本統一」シリーズの10周年を記念した作品。ある夜、侠和会は沖縄で銃撃戦の末、黒龍幇を倒す。しかし東京に戻った氷室の携帯に届いたのは「I’m waiting for you. Come alone.（お前を待っている。1人で来い）」というメッセージと、椅子に縛り付けられた氷室の息子・悠太の写真。悠太が高校の修学旅行で台湾にいると知った彼は、1人台湾へ飛び立つ。
